GPX files and Garmin devices
Garmin is known as the company that develops and manufactures GPS devices for
all areas of civil transport, which mainly includes land
traffic, but also naval and air.
Garmin manufactures navigation devices of all kinds, from smart watches
to air navigation and sea diving devices.
All Garmin devices are intended for civil and sports use.
Use GPX files on Garmin devices
Since Garmin GPS devices support the GPX format, one of the easiest ways
for Garmin users to import GPS data to their device is by using the POI
Loader. POI Loader allows a Garmin device to import various types of
third-party GPS data.
- Step 1
- Visit the Garmin home page
to download and install POI Loader.
- Step 2
- Click the link "Download" button on this link.
If you are using Mac, the "Download" link is under "POI Loader for
Mac". You will be redirected to another page that displays information
about the latest version of POI Loader; click the "Download" link, and
then save the file to your computer.
- Step 3
- Install POI Loader by double clicking on the file, and then
following the instructions. Do not connect your Garmin device to your
computer during the installation process unless instructed by POI
Loader.
- Step 4
- Connect the Garmin serial / USB cable that originally came with your
device to your Garmin and your computer. Make sure to only use the
Garmin serial / USB cable as POI Loader may not recognize other
cables.
- Step 5
- Copy the GPX file you want to import to your Garmin device, and then
paste it into the "POI folder / directory" folder. The "POI folder /
directory" folder can be found by going back to your local drive,
choosing "Programs" and then choosing "POI Loader".
- Step 6
- Open POI Loader while the Garmin device is connected to your
computer, and then follow the instructions while POI Loader recognizes
the GPX file and imports the file to your Garmin device.
